CSSC subsidiary to construct world's largest LNG dual-fuel car carriers

Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), on Monday (17 January) entered into a newbuilding contract with CSSC Trading and Anji Logistics, a subsidiary of SAIC Group, for two 7,600 capacity LNG dual-fuel ocean-going vehicle carriers.

Once constructed, the newbuilding duo will be the largest dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) in the world.

Lei Fanpei, Secretary of the Party Group and Chairman of CSSC, and Chen Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of SAIC Motor, attended the signing ceremony.

The signing of the project is conducive to CSSC and Jiangnan Shipbuilding’s support for the PCTC newbuilding business through the cooperation with large car companies, they note.

According to CSSC, the vessels will be dual classed to DNV and China Classification Society (CCS) standards, and represent a new generation of post-Panamax car carriers complying with the latest international rules.

Both vessels are independently developed and designed by CSSC subsidiary Shanghai Shipyard, and have completely independent intellectual property rights.

The ships’ key equipment systems (WinGD X-DF main engine and iCER system, LNG containment and gas supply system, ro-ro equipment system) are all manufactured by CSSC companies under its own scientific research and development programmes.

“This is a milestone in the history of China’s large-scale ro-ro ship construction. After completion and delivery, the PCTCs will become China’s largest and world-leading ocean-going vehicle transportation vessels,” stated CSSC.

“The PCTC newbuilds can actively meet the growing export business needs of SAIC Group and other domestic and foreign brands, and will also accelerate the promotion of high-quality ‘China intelligent manufacturing’ to the world.”
